The UK parliament has voted 274 to 12 to recognise the State of Palestine. How can we recognise a State when we don’t know what are its borders? Let’s follow the logic. Had Scotland voted for independence in the recent referendum would that have meant UK would no longer be recognised because its borders had changed? Would we have had to re-apply to the United Nations for membership, a bit embarrassing for a founder member? When USA absorbed Alaska should the UK have sought guidance on the need to re-recognise US on its new borders? And which nation has never actually stated what it believes its borders to be? Oh Yes, that would be – Israel.
